Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz wants the US Congress to start accepting the crypt right in its main building, that is, the Capitol.
At the same time, the politician decided to focus on details that both Republicans and Democrats might like: Cruz wants to allow payment for food and snacks for cryptocurrencies. This week, he introduced a resolution according to which only vending machines and catering contractors that accept cryptocurrency as a means of payment will be allowed in the Capitol. We tell you about the event in more detail.
It should be noted that initiatives related to cryptocurrencies from American politicians are not heard for the first time this week. Earlier, Republican Senator Wendy Rogers proposed recognizing Bitcoin as an official means of payment in Arizona.
Apparently, such a gesture was only a sign of support from a politician. Nevertheless, the US Constitution prohibits the recognition of new payment instruments within certain states. Accordingly, the prospects for such an idea are practically zero in advance.
Where will Bitcoin be accepted
According to Decrypt sources, if the resolution is adopted, the federal agency Architect of the Capitol, the Secretary of the Senate and the chief administrator of the House of Representatives will have to involve firms that accept cryptocurrencies for selling food in retail outlets and vending machines.
The text of the resolution is not yet available on the Congress website. Accordingly, it is unknown what the potential cost of implementing this measure is, and whether the resolution will require contractors to accept payment in certain cryptocurrencies. Most likely, if the proposal is successful, officials will limit themselves to Bitcoin as the most famous crypt.
Senator Ted Cruz has long been a politician who supports the development of the digital asset industry. At the same time, in Texas, Bitcoin mining in recent years — especially after the loss of China’s dominance in this area — has reached new heights in terms of cash turnover in business. By the end of August, Cruz visited the largest mining center in Texas, which he reported on his Twitter with the following message.
Today I had the pleasure of visiting the largest crypto farm in North America in Rockdale! I am proud to be leading the fight for the crypto industry in the Senate. Texas will continue to be the center of crypto innovations!
