While the organizers of the Euro 2018 are only thinking what they can earn during a football tournament, the Ukrainian National Bank of Ukraine has already begun to do this. The National Bank released a coin made of pure gold worth 350 thousand hryvnias, weighing half a kilogram. And he has already received orders for more than 100 pieces of this valuable coin from the collection series dedicated to the holding of the European Football Championship in Ukraine.
But the big hopes of Ukrainian business as a whole Euro 2018 seem to not justify.
If this question was posed a year ago, to me or representatives of Ukrainian business, then everyone was more optimistic than now.
The greatest problem of Ukraine in preparing for the euro was the lack of private investment – all the largest projects were financed from the Ukrainian state budget. This is a minus. Who paid for the euro? Taxpayers, taxpayer children. And how and when it pays off? The euro will affect the country’s economy neutral.
The partner of the audit and consulting company “Deloit” is more optimistic in evaluating preparations for Euro 2018 and its further influence on the economy of Ukraine:
“No need to measure the entire effect of the short -term effect, which we will receive in a month. Firstly, 80% of the investment were made in basic infrastructure facilities: tourist, transport. These are the objects in which Ukraine has underestimated or has not invested within 20 years of its independence. And once it had to be done, the euro is just a good reason to do it right now. Only stadiums can be called football investments in euros. We will use everything else for decades after this championship “.
Also, thanks to the previous euro 2018, Ukraine decided to get rid of poisonous waste, and employees of the railway station began to study European languages intensively. When would they still have such an opportunity?
Experts share the concepts of short -term and long -term economic impact from holding a tournament of this level in the country. In the long run, this is an invaluable experience that will reveal Ukraine to Europe: both ordinary tourists and businessmen with investors. But earn unprecedented money at once is unlikely to work.
Even Euro 2018 is called not so much a profitable business project as image. This is an unconditionally risky project. All risks are compensated only for the fact that this is a powerful project from an image point of view.
According to experts, experts were superprofited to extract from it. And the total investment in Kyiv and Kharkov is 2.5–3 million euros.
The Ukrainian authorities, according to the most optimistic estimates, expects to receive up to 1 billion euro of instant profit from visitors to the country during the euro. But in preparation for the football tournament, according to various sources, Ukraine spent more than 4 billion euros. Although President Yanukovych voiced a slightly smaller amount – 35 billion hryvnias.
However, whatever one may say, but to recapture investments invested in Euro 2018 for 30 days of the tournament will not be able to. But what Ukraine can receive in the future is not subject to calculation.
